Halfway to Paradise - The Billy Fury Story
Named by Billy Fury himself, his own band Fury's Tornados played live & recorded with him for over a decade. All original members are now back on tour with Colin Gold [as Fury]
Billy Fury was Britain's own Elvis...& the girl's went wild for him! With looks like James Dean he stormed the charts with 29 hit singles."Last Night Was Made For Love", "Wondrous Place", "Jealousy", "I Will","I'd Never Find Another You"...& of course "Halfway To Paradise" - which spent over half a year on the charts. 4 years after his final top 10 hit "I'm Lost Without You" he hired a band from Nottingham & called them "Fury's Tornados". They remained with him throughout a decade that saw Fury become increasingly beleaguered with heart problems...until his sad death on 29th January 1983. Now 31 years later, those same musicians are touring in the hit show.......
Charlie Elston [Piano/organ/vocals]
Chris Raynor [Lead guitar/vocals]
John [Raggy] Raynor [Drums/vocals]
Graham Wyvill [Double bass/vocals]
& as Billy Fury....Colin Gold [A Voice Blessed By Heaven - The Stage]
A message from Chris Raynor - Billy's guitarist [1970 - 1983]
I had the good fortune to be U.K. 60's star Billy Fury's guitarist from 1970 through to his sad premature death in 1983. I'm playing, along with the other originals, John [Raggy]Raynor [drums] & Charlie Elston, in the theatre show "Halfway To Paradise - The Billy Fury Story" - along with the brilliant Colin Gold as Fury. We have Billy there [onscreen] too - filmed live with ourselves in 1974. We have many memories of playing with Billy over the years. We were with him during 1972 when he filmed "That'll Be The Day" with Ringo, David Essex& Keith Moon [who actually gigged with us in a club in London!]
