~~Tynemouth Scout District is part of the Scout Association, a global, co-educational youth movement, and covers the areas of North Shields, Wallsend, Howden, Battle Hill as well as Tynemouth Itself.  The District is part of Northumberland Scout County and made up of 15 Scout Groups, one of which is a Sea Scout Group. Tynemouth Amateur Operatic Society (TAOS) is a group of like-minded people who enjoy singing and acting.  The Society was formed in 1947, performing at the Albion Cinema in North Shields.  Throughout the years we have presented our shows at various venues within North Shields and Tynemouth, moving to the Playhouse in Whitley Bay in 1977 where we have been performing ever since. Whitley Bay Operatic Society (WBOS) was formed in October 1911 and was then named The Whitley Bay Monkseaton and District Operatic Society. Productions started in such places as the Livingston hall and finally progressed to the Whitley Bay Playhouse. We perform two musicals each year usually in November and April taking up to six months in rehearsals twice a week. Whitley Bay & District Scouts

Within Whitley Bay & District there are 11 Scout Groups, each made up of a Beaver Scout Colony (age 5¾-8), a Cub Scout Pack (age 8-10½)  and a Scout Group (age 10½-14). Within the District we have an Explorer Scout Unit for the 14-18 age range and a Network Scout Unit for 18-25 year olds.
