Mouth of the Tyne Festival Launch: Ronnie Spector Sings the Fabulous Ronettes presented by North Tyneside Council
The PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay, in partnership with North Tyneside Council, is delighted to announce that the sublime Ronnie Spector will launch the Mouth of the Tyne Festival with Ronnie Spector Sings the Fabulous Ronettes on Friday the 17th of June.
This is the iconic rock singer’s first show created specifically to pay tribute to the music of the ultimate girl group she co–founded as a teenager from New York’s Spanish Harlem.
Ronnie and her American band will perform all the Ronettes hits – “Be My Baby,” “Baby I Love You,” “Do I Love You,” “Walking in the Rain,” and more-as well as songs originally recorded by the group that became successful for other artists, such as “I Can Hear Music” (Beach Boys) and “Chapel of Love” (Dixie Cups). Longtime fans will thrill with the inclusion of such Ronettes cult classics as “Paradise,” expressly written for Ronnie by the late Harry Nilsson.
Ronnie Spector Sings the Fabulous Ronettes follows the singer’s last UK appearance, in December 2015, when her show played London’s Barbican to critical acclaim, “her voice still with that mix of innocence and lasciviousness” (The Times), and “There was not a bum note in this lovingly conceived and executed show” (The Scotsman).
